石垣島に来て、良く見かける鳥だが、まだシャッターチャンスに恵まれない。
河川、湿地、水田、マングローブ林に生息するが、山間部の草地でも多く見
られる。同じ科にヤンバルクイナという種がいるが、こちらは年々沖縄本島
の生息数が減り、現在、絶滅危惧種に分類されている。

White-Breasted Waterhen
This is a bird I often see after coming to Ishigaki Island, but
I still haven't had a chance to take a photo. They live in rivers,
wetlands, paddy fields, mangrove forests, and also in the grassland
in the mountains. There is a species called Yambaru Kuina in the
same family.
These numbers in Okinawa are decreasing year by year, and it is now
classified as an endangered species.Scientific name is Amaurornis-
phoenicurus, and it is called White-Breasted Waterhen in English.
